There were many academic years spent inactive in the extracurricular arena for reasons outside my control. Then the year I joined the St Mary High School Literary and Debating Society as Treasurer as well as the third speaker on the school’s National Debating team (2014) and the subsequent year as President of the society, catapulted a desire I had never felt in me before. I saw myself do amazing things with my teammates (Abigail Barrett - 1st speaker, Janelle Haye - 2nd speaker, and Kadeshi* Levers - reserve speaker) and coaches (Shelly-Ann Reid and Roberta Miller) on the local, regional, and national level of the debating circuit. The moots, the team work, the pioneering, the locations, the opponents, the competition was bizarre - and befitting of my wildest teenage dreams. It lit the fire to who I would become. An individual I am still envisioning.
